Brake Repair Services in Omaha | Gateway Auto

Brakes squeaking or grinding? Is it hard to brake or come to a stop? Need brake repair? If you can't brake properly, you put you, your car and passengers at risk. Gateway Auto Service Center can figure out exactly what's going on and usually get you back on the road in the same day.

Every year, brake-related failures contribute to thousands of preventable accidents. At Gateway Auto, we've spent over 20 years keeping Omaha drivers safe with honest brake service - from simple pad replacements to complex ABS diagnostics.

Our Brake Services

We handle every part of your brake system. Here's what that actually means for your vehicle:

Brake Pad Replacement

Your brake pads are the friction surface that stops your car. When they wear down, stopping distances increase and you risk metal-to-metal contact that damages rotors. We install ceramic or semi-metallic pads depending on how you drive - ceramic for daily commuting (quieter, less dust), semi-metallic for towing or performance (better heat tolerance, more aggressive bite).

New pads restore proper lining thickness, prevent rotor scoring, and eliminate that awful squealing noise. Most importantly, they give you back the stopping power you need in emergency situations.

Rotor Service

Rotors can often be resurfaced if they're just slightly worn or have minor heat spots. We measure runout (should be ≤ 0.002 inches) and thickness to determine whether resurfacing works or if you need replacement.

If rotors are below manufacturer minimum thickness or severely warped, replacement is the only safe option. We never cut corners on rotor decisions - your safety depends on proper braking structure.

Brake Fluid Flush

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which causes two major problems: internal corrosion in calipers and master cylinders, and reduced boiling point that leads to brake fade. A fluid flush removes contaminated fluid and restores proper hydraulic pressure throughout the system.

We recommend flushing every 24 months or 24,000 miles - whichever comes first. It's one of the most overlooked maintenance items, but it prevents expensive hydraulic failures down the road.

ABS System Repair

When your ABS light comes on, it means the anti-lock system isn't functioning. This might be a wheel speed sensor, the hydraulic modulator, or an ECU fault. We diagnose the exact issue, replace or reprogram components as needed, and restore the anti-lock function that keeps you from losing control during emergency braking.

ABS is especially critical in Omaha winters when roads are slick. Don't ignore that warning light.

Complete Brake Inspections

Every inspection includes:

  • Pad and lining thickness measurement
  • Rotor runout and wear check
  • Brake fluid condition testing
  • Caliper and hardware function test

We use digital inspection tools to show you exactly what we're seeing - photos and videos of your brake components with clear explanations. No surprises, no upselling. Just honest assessment of what your vehicle needs.

Warning Signs You Need Brake Service

Squealing or Grinding Noises

High-pitched squealing usually means your wear indicators are hitting the rotor or your pads have glazed from heat. Grinding is worse - that's metal-on-metal contact from completely worn pads. Either way, get it checked immediately. Grinding can destroy rotors in a matter of miles.

Soft or Spongy Pedal

If your brake pedal feels soft or goes toward the floor, you likely have air in the lines or degraded fluid. This reduces hydraulic force and increases stopping distance. We'll bleed the system and flush the fluid to restore firm pedal feel.

Vehicle Pulls When Braking

Pulling to one side during braking means uneven force - often from a sticking caliper or contaminated pad on one wheel. This is dangerous because it affects your ability to control the vehicle during emergency stops. We'll diagnose which side is grabbing and correct it.

Dashboard Warning Lights

ABS or brake warning lights mean your vehicle's computer detected a problem. Don't ignore them. We have the diagnostic tools to read fault codes and identify the exact issue.

Choosing the Right Brake Pads

Ceramic Pads
Low dust, quiet operation, stable friction. Best for daily commuting and normal driving. These are what most Omaha drivers need.

Semi-Metallic Pads
Higher heat tolerance, aggressive bite. Better for towing, performance driving, or if you regularly haul heavy loads. More dust and noise than ceramic.

Organic Pads
Budget-friendly, light-duty use only. We don't typically recommend these unless cost is the primary concern.

Not sure which you need? Tell us how you drive and we'll recommend the right pad for your situation.
