Check Engine Light Diagnostic in Omaha | Gateway Auto
That check engine light means your vehicle's computer detected something wrong. Could be serious, could be simple. Either way, ignoring it risks bigger damage and failed emissions testing.
Our Diagnostic Process
Computer Scan
We connect to your vehicle's computer to read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). These codes point us toward the problem area but aren't the complete answer - they're the starting point.
Real-World Testing
Codes tell us "oxygen sensor reading lean" or "misfire cylinder 3." We then test the actual components and systems to find the root cause. Sometimes an oxygen sensor code means you need an oxygen sensor. Other times it means you have a vacuum leak or fuel system issue.
Complete System Check
We verify related systems before recommending repairs. No guessing, no throwing parts at your car hoping something works.
Common Check Engine Light Causes
- Loose or damaged gas cap (seriously - check this first)
- Oxygen sensors
- Catalytic converter issues
- Mass airflow sensor problems
- Spark plugs or ignition coils
- Evaporative emission system leaks
- Engine misfires
What to Do When the Light Comes On
Solid light: Schedule service soon. The issue isn't immediately critical but needs attention.
Flashing light: Stop driving and have it towed. Flashing means active misfires that can damage your catalytic converter.
Diagnostic Cost
We charge a diagnostic fee for check engine light service, $150 for the initial diagnostic.
