- Choose your transportation plan. You can drop the car off, wait when appropriate, or reserve a courtesy car in advance.
- Diagnosis. The technician checks the CV axles and boots, the driveshaft and U-joints, the differential, and the wheel bearings to find which part is causing the noise or vibration.
- Review and approve. Your advisor explains what is worn and what it costs to fix. Gateway Auto does not start a repair without your authorization.
- Repair and final check. The worn part is replaced or the fluid is serviced, and the repair gets a final check before the car goes back to you. Covered mechanical repairs are backed by a 24-month, 24,000-mile nationwide warranty.

The drivetrain transfers power from your engine to your wheels. When drivetrain components fail, you hear clunking, clicking, or vibration. We diagnose and repair CV axles, U-joints, driveshafts, differentials, and wheel bearings.
What We Service
CV Axles (Front-Wheel Drive)
CV (constant velocity) axles transfer power from the transmission to the front wheels while allowing steering and suspension movement. Torn CV boots leak grease and cause clicking noises during turns. Ignore it long enough and the entire axle fails.
Driveshaft and U-Joints
Rear-wheel drive vehicles use a driveshaft to send power to the rear axle. U-joints (universal joints) on each end allow the driveshaft to flex with suspension movement. Worn U-joints cause clunking when accelerating or decelerating.
Differential Service
The differential allows your wheels to rotate at different speeds during turns. It contains gear oil that needs periodic replacement. Neglected differential service leads to expensive differential failure.
Recommended service: every 30,000-60,000 miles, or per manufacturer recommendation.
Transfer Case Service (AWD/4WD)
All-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles have a transfer case that distributes power between front and rear axles. It requires fluid changes on the same schedule as the differential.

What are the symptoms of a bad CV axle?
A clicking or popping noise when you turn, especially at low speed in a tight turn. Vibration that gets worse with speed. Grease thrown around the inside of the wheel, which means the boot has split. A torn boot caught early is a much smaller job than a failed axle.
What does a failing driveshaft or U-joint sound like?
A clunk when you shift into gear or let off the throttle, a vibration through the floor that rises with speed, or a squeak that changes with road speed. On all wheel drive and rear wheel drive vehicles these are worth checking early, because a driveshaft that lets go at speed does real damage.
